Mangaluru: The 34 local youth who have been stranded in Kuwait for the last six months, may return home soon, said Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyas Kamath, addressing a press conference on June 21.

It may be recalled that the stranded youth had circulated a video talking about how they were duped by a Mangaluru-based agency. They had specifically urged the MLA to help them.

The MLA, who instantly got into action, contacted his acquaintance in Kuwait and made all efforts to bring the youth back.

MLA Kamath had also sought the help of Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and Minister D V Sadananda Gowda and got in touch with the Indian Embassy in Kuwait.

He informed that the agency, Manikya Associates has agreed to cover the airfare expenses of the stranded youth. The exit documents costing Rs 3,000/- each, was paid by NRI Entrepreneur in Kuwait from Ujire, Gokuldas Bhat. As soon as the exit procedures are complete, the 34 youth will be returning back to Mangaluru in a week.

At the press conference, MLA Vedavyas Kamath thanked all the persons who worked to bring back the stranded youth.

BJP leaders Sanjay Prabhu, Ravishanker Mijar, Prabha Malini, Nithin Kumar, Premanand Shetty and Ramesh were present.
