Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary informed that a total of 20,000 quintals of boiled rice has been released to the district for disbursement to 2,71,000 BPL card holders.

Addressing the media on Friday, April, 3, Minister Poojary said that each person in the family will be given a 10-kg bag of rice. Ration items should be disbursed to ensure that there is no crowding in front of ration shops. “In order to prevent a rush, ration shops should make necessary arrangements for the purchase of ration items while maintaining social distance. In case there is a requirement for a large quantity of rice, ration shops must make arrangements for transport the same to the families,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Minister said that the checkpost at Talapady will not be opened to Kerala vehicles at any cost, even though they have approached the court. “We have consulted with legal experts to fight in this regard and the Chief Minister of Karnataka has also assured the government’s cooperation,” he added.

Respect ASHA workers, doctors and health workers

Pointing out the incidents of ASHA workers and health workers being harassed and abused, Minister Poojary said that stringent action will be taken against those who abuse ASHA workers, doctors and other health workers. “They are providing selfless service to society and their contribution towards preventing the spread of COVID-19 is immense. Hence, don’t take the law into your hands, but respect them,” he urged.
