Mangaluru: To create awareness among the students about substance abuse, alcoholism, child abuse, traffic rules and addiction to the internet, the Rotary Club under the aegis of St. Aloysius College along with various other organisations, released an informational book titled “20 Minutes, For Change of Life” at the Eric Mathais Hall, here on March 17.

After releasing the book, Rotary Club-Mangalore Central Governor (District RI 3181) M M Suresh Chengappa said that the intention of this book was to provide awareness about substance abuse. Students should attain their goals with responsibility and be good citizens of the country, he advised.

“In the contemporary scenario, we are encountering a lot of hatred in the society on the basis of religion, class and creed. The present youth should find a solution to these problems without getting addicted to substances”, he added.

He also said there was an increase in drug mafia because of the culprits going unpunished.

The director of FMCI, Fr. Richard Coehlo said that several youngsters were getting admitted into de-addiction centres or counselling centres for medical treatment due to substance abuse.

He also asked the youth to not fall victim to substance abuse.

He added that proper food and daily exercise were very important for human beings.

Dr. Praveen Martis SJ, Principal of St. Aloysius College, ACP Udaya Nayak and U K Kumarnath, Resident Editor of Vijaya Karnataka also spoke about substance abuse.
