177 new COVID cases reported from DK; Six dead, 187 discharged

Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada district registered 177 fresh cases and six COVID-19 deaths, on Thursday, August 20.

Of the six dead, three are from the Mangaluru taluk, one is from Bantwal, and two are from other districts. Comorbidities were found in all of the cases.

The total COVID positive cases stand at 9,712 while 2,287 are active cases.

The district’s total COVID fatality stands at 296.

Only 187 patients were discharged on Thursday. Of these, 145 were quarantined at home and the remaining 35 were being treated in the hospital.

Among the 177 new cases, 107 are from Mangaluru, 14 are from Bantwal, 16 are from Puttur, 12 are from Sullia, 12 are from Belthangady and 16 are from other districts, the district health bulletin informed.

As many as 92 of the new cases are symptomatic (56 men and 36 women) while the remaining 85 are asymptomatic (52 men and 33 women).

Of the 177 cases, 29 persons have contact history, 88 have influenza-like illnesses, 17 are SARI patients, and 43 are under investigation.
