Woman, six-month-old child rescued from unlawful confinement

Mandya: A woman who was kept in unlawful confinement by her mother in-law was rescued on Tuesday night from Swarnasandra here.
The 35-year-old woman identified as Chethana Kumar was tortured by her mother in-law.

On receiving the information, the Mandya East police visited the spot and shifted the victim and her six-month-old baby boy to the Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) hospital for treatment.

It is said that Chethana, who hails from H Malligere of Mandya was living with her husband Umesh, a cab driver by profession in Bengaluru. She had recently come to her mother in-law Rathnamma’s residence with her son. Soon, Rathnamma put Chethana in confinement and started torturing her and her child for no reason.

As per sources when Mandya City Municipal Council (CMC) member Pushpalatha and others rescued the woman anc the child, the two were evidently weak and exhausted.

Superintendent of Police T.J. Udesha (Mandya subdivision) said it was a domestic fight and an  FIR will be filed if the victim complained.
