Mandya: In a tragic incident, a one-and-half-year-old toddler lost his life after choking on a cooker whistle, in Nagarakere village, in the Maddur taluk on Saturday, June 30.

Bhuvan, son of Marilingegowda and Roopa -both employees of the survey department of Kundapur city in Udupi district – is the deceased. He had been left in the care of his grandparents while his parents were out at work.

The child was crawling about in the kitchen while his grandmother was preparing his food in an open cooker. It was at this time that Bhuvan spotted the whistle and put it in his mouth. His grandmother tried to get the whistle out of his mouth but, the whistle only went further into his throat.

The child was immediately rushed to a hospital in Maddur and the whistle was successfully removed from his food pipe. However, post the extraction of the whistle, the child developed breathing difficulties and the family was instructed to take the child to either Mandya or Mysuru for treatment.

Unfortunately, the child passed away on the way to Mandya and his funeral rites were performed on Sunday morning. The Maddur police informed that no case has been registered.
