Mandya: Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi who is on two-day visit to Karnataka over the prevalent agrarian crisis, arrived in Mandya, on Friday, October 9 and paid final respects to deceased farmer Lokesh from Sanabadakoppalu in the district.
Lokesh committed suicide on Thursday after being unable to pay his debts.
Speaking to the media Rahul said, “In Karnataka, farmers are facing major crisis. The state government has discussed a strategy to support the farmers. Here the BJP leaders are not bothered by the plight of the farmers.”
As per his pre-planned schedule, Rahul was suppose to interact with farmers in Mandya. As the farmer committed suicide yesterday, Rahul visited the village of the farmer.
Rahul paid a floral tribute to the deceased farmer and extended a financial assistance with a cheque of Rs 1 lakh to the kin of the deceased.
CM Siddaramaiah, former external minister S M Krishna, district in-charge minister Ambareesh and former MP Ramya accompanied Rahul Gandhi.
