Malavalli (Mandya): “After three consecutive defeats, the forthcoming assembly elections in 2018 will be between my life and death and the chances of survival are bleak in case of defeat,” said Somashekar, former minister and state BJP Vice president.

In an effort to draw sympathy from the electorate of his constituency, a teary eyed Somashekar listed his previous achievements while addressing party’s OBC Morcha meeting at Ravaleshwara temple premises in Cholanahalli village.

“As a legislator, my contribution towards the development of the constituency is immense by providing roads, electricity, underground drains, sites and early learning (Anganawadi centres). I ensured that people from lower classes get educated and my decision to hold supplementary exams soon after the main exams came in for praise and many states started adopting the structure,” explained Somashekar. All these measures were taken by ignoring my own interests, he added.

“As a revenue minister, I ensured computerisation of Right, Tenancy and Crop (RTC) documents so that they reach the doorsteps of people in quick time. In addition, the transfer of ancestral property became easier during my tenure where I abolished stamp duty and facilitated registration by paying a nominal fee of Rs 250. Even this decision was appreciated nationwide,” stated Somashekar.

“During the earlier campaign, I had requested the electorate not to waste time and money to reach my doorstep, instead had assured them of service at their door step. That statement boomeranged on me resulting in my three successive defeats,” State BJP VP rued.

“I will be contesting on a BJP ticket in the forthcoming elections and state BJP Chief B S Yeddyurappa has assured me of Malavalli assembly constituency ticket. In such a scenario, it will be the last opportunity to win or else I may not survive,” said Somashekar with tears flowing down his face.

Will the people of the constituency get carried away to ensure his victory or he will only be “remembered”, will be known in the coming days.
