Mandya: Police have detained 16 men for assaulting a college student and a young girl.
Some of the accused have been identified as Idris, Ishraar, Adduli alias Idris, Aqib, Nazeer, Suhail, Sameer, Mujahid, Jaleel, Lalu, and Tajju. They are residents of Nagamangala and Belur.
On October 9, the accused assaulted a young man and a Muslim girl after they were seen traveling in a car together near Hosamane Gate, Belur Cross.
The accused youths also filmed the incident and posted the video on social media. The young woman who was assaulted approached the jurisdictional police station and filed a complaint against her attackers.
The Nagamangala Police had filed a case against 20 youths in this regard.
Mandya District SP K Parashuram, ASP Shobharani, Nagamangala Deputy SP Vishwanath, CPI Nanjappa, PSI Ravikiran, PSI Sharath and local police station official Ramachandra were involved in the arrest of the accused.
All of the accused were produced before the JMFC Magistrate Court in Nagamangala and were later sent to the Mandya District Jail.
District Police Superintendent K Parashuram commended the police personnel involved in the operation.
