Mandya: One passenger died while six others sustained grievous head injuries as a KSRTC bus toppled and fell off the bridge from a 30-40 ft height into Shimsha river in Shivapur here on Thursday January 28.
The deceased is identified as Ramakrishna (47), a resident of Hebberalu.
While some claim that a tyre burst led to the mishap, an eyewitness said that the driver lost concentration and as a result, he veered the vehicle towards one side and ended up plunging into the river.
There were 38 passengers including the driver and the conductor. The bus was plying from Bengaluru to Mysuru.
The injured have been rushed to a hospital in Madduru.
The local police have registered a case.
Meanwhile, the KSRTC department has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2.5 lakh to the kin of the deceased.
