Mandya: The Mandya district administration was caught in the eye of the storm for allotting ‘Serial No-1’ to JDS LS candidate Nikhil Kumaraswamy. While many said that the district administration was acting as per the whims and fancies of Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, who is desperate to make sure his son Nikhil wins the elections, the district administration has now tendered its explanation.
DC Manjushree N has told a Kannada news channel that Nikhil Kumaraswamy has been allotted the first serial number on the EVM as per the Kannada Varnamala (alphabetic order). “The serial numbers are allocated to the candidates as per the Kannada Varnamala and since ‘Ni’ falls in the category of the sound ‘E’, he has been given the first serial number,” she said, adding that among the three Sumalathas who are contesting the polls, A Sumalatha has been given priority because of the initial ‘A’, followed by M Sumalatha and P Sumalatha.
