Mandya: Almost nine months after having strangled her lover to death, 20-year-old Anusha killed herself on Tuesday, December 1, thereby ending Mandya’s first publicised lesbian love tale. The matter came to light on Wednesday, December 2.
Anusha and Divyashree (24), a B.Ed student were childhood friends, who had later proclaimed that they were couple. However, when Divyashree’s parents got her married off to a boy from Bengaluru on March 8, 2014, Anusha could not come to terms with the same and had strangled Divyashree to death.
While Divyashree continued to stay in her parents house after marriage to complete her education, on March 31, Anusha took Divyashree for a ride on her two-wheeler and strangled her to death in a secluded place.
But, this measurement did not bring any solace to Anusha and nine-months after the killing, Anusha ended her own life by flinging herself before a moving train.
A resident of Satyaharischandra Circle at Halahalli Layout in the town (off Bengaluru-Mysuru highway), Anusha used to run a mobile recharge shop after having discontinued her studies. Divyashree lived in the same layout.
After Divyashree’s murder Anusha was taken into custody after neighbours reported seeing the two together on the latter’s vehicle just before the incident.
Anusha was subsequently arrested for murder and jailed in April. She was also treated by doctors at Nimhans for mental health issues, and it was on these grounds that she managed to obtain bail a few days ago.
Late on Tuesday, Anusha is said to have walked to the railway tracks on the outskirts of Mandya and committed suicide by jumping in front of a train. The incident came to light on Wednesday morning. A case has been registered by Mandya railway police, and further investigations are on.
