Mandya: A 24-year-old man was allegedly brutally assaulted in the sanctum sanctorum of the Sri Kalamma Temple in Maruthi Nagar Guthal, on Saturday, April 5 night. He died shortly after the incident.

The deceased has been identified as Nanda, a resident of Gubehalli.

The accused are Ajay from Maruti Nagar and Chandru from Basavangudi. However, the police suspect that more people are involved in the case.

According to police sources, Nanda had attacked Chandru’s friends on Friday, April 5 noon for petty reasons. Later that night at around 8.30 PM, when Nanda was visiting the Sri Kalamma Temple to offer prayers on account of Amavasya (new moon night), he was attacked by Chandru, Ajay and their friends.

Nanda, not knowing where to escape, entered into the sanctum sanctorum where Chandru and gang brutally assaulted him and escaped immediately thereafter.

When the police were informed of the incident, they immediately rushed to the spot and took Nanda to the district hospital, where he breathed his last without responding to treatment.

A case has been registered in the Mandya East Police Station.
