Landlord arrested for abducting labourer; viral video exposes truth

Mandya: A video of a 28-year-old woman being abducted by three men on Thursday, September 20 went viral on social media.

In this video, a landowner identified as Nagesh, a resident of Gejjalakkere of Mandya district is seen abducting a woman in broad daylight.

The abducted woman is identified as Janakamma. In the video, it is clearly shown that Janakamma is begging the men to let her free, regardless of her plea the men after forcefully dragging her out of the house push her into a car. Janakamma was rescued within a few hours of her kidnap with the help of the local activists and the police.

As per the reports, Janakamma and her husband, Chinnathambi natives of Tamil Nadu had come to Karnataka twelve years ago in search of a work. The couple started to work at a farm owned by Nagesh. The couple were in bad need of money for Chinnathambi’s medical treatment, thus, decided to borrow money from their landlord Nagesh. Since that day, Nagesh forced Chinnathambi and Janakamma into bonded labour.

After being severely tortured by Nagesh, Janakamma finally decided to file a case against Nagesh. On learning this Nagesh, in order to stop her from filing a case against him abducted Janakamma with the help of his friends whose identification is not yet revealed said sources.

Nagesh is now arrested under the charges of abduction and under relevant sections of the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act and the Bonded Labour Act.
