Mandya: In a tragic mishap, a 28-year-old man was killed and his friend suffered critical injuries when the motorcycle they were riding collided with a van in which some journalists were travelling, on Mandya-Malavalli main road, on Tuesday.

However, even as the gruesome incident unfurled right in front of their eyes, the representatives of fourth estate and locals did not resort to help the injured, instead filmed and photographed the mishap.

The deceased has been identified as Bharath Marigowda, of V.V. Nagara near Kallahalli. His friend R. Praveen of Chikka Banasawadi was rushed to the Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) hospital in the town. His condition was critical, Mandya Rural Station police said.

The group of journalists were returning to Mandya after attending a private progamme organised by local MLA P M Narendra Swamy at Malavalli.

The nearest hospital, MIMS was just 15 minutes away from the accident spot.

The van (KA-41 – A 3221) collided head-on with the motorcycle (KA-09 – EE 6921) near Haniyambadi. The victims flung off their vehicle, crashed to the ground and suffered injuries in the face and head. The motorcycle was badly damaged, police said.
