Mandya: An elephant which was lodged at Fun Fort Recreation Centre next to amusement park in Srirangapatna taluk died on Wednesday November 19.
It is alleged that among five elephants lodged in the park, Chanchal (51) elephant died due to illness and months of negligence by its caretakers.

According to sources, the elephant had stopped eating for the last two days. It was also suffering from arthritis and malnutrition, it is said.

Chanchal and four other elephants were brought to Fun Fort Recreation Centre in April, after the owner of Gemini Circus abandoned them. The Central Zoo Authority and Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) had asked him for papers about transporting the elephants to Maharashtra, which he failed to show.

The elephant was cremated after postmortem.
