Mandya: The Election Commission (EC) has launched an investigation into the allegations of cable connection cutting on March 21 across the Mandya district, at the time of independent candidate Sumalatha Ambareesh’s nomination filing.
Speaking to reporters, state election commissioner Sanjeev Kumar informed that he has received a complaint in this regard and has sought a report on the matter.
He also confirmed that the commission is considering announcing the entire Mandya Lok Sabha constituency as ‘hyper-sensitive’.
Meanwhile, the BJP has sought protection for Sumalatha Ambareesh, ‘Challenging Star’ Darshan and ‘Rocking Star’ Yash. In a letter to the EC, party leader Aravind Limbavali alleged that all of them are being targetted by JDS activists.
He also urged the EC to ensure a free and fair election in the Mandya Lok Sabha constituency.
