Mandya: The state government, on Saturday, released 11,263 cusecs of water from the KRS dam to Tamil Nadu, despite protests across the district from farmers.

Melukote MLA K.S.Puttannaiah, along with farmers who laid seize to the office of Cauvery Neeravari Nigam at KRS were arrested by the police and were released later.

Speaking to the media, Puttannaiah said that the water storage in the KRS Dam was not sufficient even for growing vegetables and other crops. He also hit out at the Chief Minister, the District In-charge Minister and the Water Resources Minister, for lying about the release of water to Tamil Nadu.

Speaking to sources, CNN Executive Engineer Basavarajegowda said that water is being released based on the Cauvery Tribunal report. The Government is doing its best to avoid legal hurdles and farmers should understand this, he said.

But, the farmers did not heed to the pleas of CNN officials, attempted to barge into the dam through the main entrance, when the Police arrested them.
