Congress worker expelled for supporting Sumalatha

Mandya: A worker for the Congress party has been expelled for supporting independent candidate Sumalatha, who is the wife of the late ‘Rebel Star’ Ambaressh, in the Mandya Lok Sabha constituency. By doing this, the party wants to drive home the message to its workers, that the Congress will only support the alliance candidate, Nikhil Kumaraswamy.

Water resources minister D K Shivakumar has informed the party workers to accompany Nikhil, son of Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, when he files his nomination next week.

Though the Congress and JDS leadership have made a pre poll alliance in Mandya, the workers of both parties are bitter rivals. This is making it harder for the Congress leadership to convince its workers to work towards Nikhil’s victory.

Sachidananda, the party worker who was expelled, told media persons that lakhs of Congress workers support Sumalatha and this was about their self-respect.

Independent candidate Sumalatha was denied a ticket by the Congress, as it was already agreed by the alliance partners that Mandya would go to the JDS. Her late husband, Ambareesh was a Congress leader from Mandya.
