Mandya: It seems independent candidate Sumalatha, wife of late former minister Ambareesh, is creating a strong wave against her opponent, JDS-Congress alliance candidate Nikhil Kumaraswamy, son for Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and MLA Anitha Kumaraswamy. On Wednesday, her supporters offered her Rs 10,000 at Shivapura near Maddur, for the campaign.
What has made this contribution interesting is that now, the general public has also started giving her money wherever she visits.
Shivapura town municipal panchayat member Nandeesh (Congress) and BJP member Lata gave Rs 5,000 each to Sumalatha. Moved by this gesture, she assured that she will never disappoint the voters.
Meanwhile, a Balija community leader has lodged a case against Mandya MP L R Shivaramegowda for making casteist remarks against Sumalatha. Gowda, during a campaign speech, had stated that Sumalatha is a Balija and if she is voted, Mandya will become a Balijas’ (Naidus) district.
