Mandya: Amid a spurt in farmer suicides that have put the state government under opposition fire, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday met the family of H.L. Shivalinge Gowda, alias Kumar (35), a farmer who recently committed suicide.
Mounting debts allegedly forced the farmers to take the extreme step in Mandya taluk. Kumar had allegedly committed suicide by jumping into a well on his farmland at Honnanayakanahalli, a week ago.
Siddaramaiah consoled the family that consisted of Kumar’s mother, his wife and two children. He also gave a check as compensation during the meet.
