Mandya: The District in-charge Minister Ambarish assured of providing houses under G plus one category at Halahalli Slum colony, after members of the Slum Dwellers Federation held indefinite protest, in Mandya, on Tuesday.

The federation had launched an indefinite stir as the government resorted to construct G plus 3 category houses at Halahalli Colony and had issued notices to the residents to vacate the houses. However slum dwellers withdrew the protest following assurance by the minister.

Vasu, State convenor of Karnataka Janashakti, said, though several meetings were held related to the Halahalli Colony, they failed to arrive at a decision.

Houses should be constructed under G plus one category and alloted to slum dwellers only, he stressed.

Though Ambarish tried to explain about the benefits of G Plus 3 category, the residents were not ready to accept.

Finally, Ambarish assured that houses would be constructed as per their wish and would be allotted to only slum dwellers and not to others. Temporary arrangements would be made for their accommodation till the construction is completed, he added.
