AB Vajpayee’s ashes immersed in river Cauvery at Paschimavahini

Mandya: The ashes of former prime minister Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee was brought to river Cauvery in an elaborate procession for immersion at Srirangapatna Paschimavahini from Bengaluru via Maddur, Mandya and Srirangapatna.

Security was beefed up by the police anticipating huge turn out. Scores of people gathered to take part in the event. BJP workers and followers of Vajpayee shouted out slogans- ‘Vajpayee Amar Rahe’.

Paschimavahini has already been the place where the ashes of national leaders like Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, former CM of Tamilnadu Jayalalitha and many others were immersed. The ritual of immersing Vajapayee’s ashes was held at 1.30 pm and the same was led by priest Dr Bhanuprakash. The ashes were immersed by BJP state president BS Yeddyurappa.

BJP leaders Ananth Kumar, Shobha Karandalaje, Prathap Simha, R Ashok among others were present.
