Wild elephant tramples elderly tribal woman to death in Somwarpet

Somwarpete: An elderly lady who was severely injured in a wild elephant attack succumbed to injuries late on Wednesday night.

The deceased is Parvathi (65) from Soolebavi tribal hamlet of Yadavanadu.

It is said that Parvathi was on her way back to the hamlet along with two other women on Yadavanadu road towards the reserve forest area when an elephant attacked her. The woman was first thumped by the elephant and then trampled. The two other women who managed to run away passed on the information and that is how the forest officials rushed to the spot and admitted Parvathi to Kushalnagar Hospital. She was then taken to Mysuru for advanced treatment, but she breathed her last on the way.

The dead body has been handed over to the family and Deputy Conservator of Forest has said that a sum of Rs 5 lac will be released as compensation to the family of the deceased. A sum of Rs 2 lac was handed over as first installment to the family.
