Madikeri: The India Meteorological Department has sounded a red alert in Kodagu forecasting likely heavy rains from July 20 to 23 in Kodagu district of over 104 mm. The residents and the tourists have been told to be on the alert by the district administration.

The DC has instructed the officials of all the departments to rush to the people’s aid along with the NDRF team and take necessary precautionary measures. Earlier, although it was forecast that heavy rains would lash the district on July 18, it showered scantily.
On Thursday night, it rained upto 1.5 inches in Madikeri. However, there was a storm in Karike village and some trees were uprooted leading to some damage to the surroundings. However, it rained normally in other parts of the district and there is drizzling here since Friday morning and the weather is cold.
It is already raining heavily in the coastal areas and it is likely to spread to Kodagu albeit a few hours late, the weather department officials have confirmed.
