Madikeri: The rain’s fury has thrown life out of gear in the beautiful Kodagu district. Even as the district administration is struggling to ease the situation, it has to encounter yet another headache. The visit of VVIPs to the district is only adding to the problems of the district administration.
According to sources, following the protocol itself has become a big headache at the time of the VVIPs’ movement. “For example, CM HDK visited the district twice. It was delayed both the days. The officers continued to wait for his arrival, wasting precious hours of work. Besides, creating zero traffic for him was a challenge in itself. Vehicles with relief materials are flooding the city and knowing the mess that the region has turned into, the VVIPs have been expecting strict implementation of the protocol,” said sources.
“In the relief centres, VVIPs are eager to show their strength and large-heartedness. Everywhere photo ops are going on. These are the side effects of the flood,” he added.
It is also said that lack of coordination between the government agencies and the volunteers is hampering relief works.
“The food items are being sent from across the state. But it is not necessary. Teams of doctors are being sent by various hospitals only to Madikeri. There is no logistics to send them to other parts like Virajpet, Suntikoppa etc. There is no clarity about where to make financial donations,” he explained.
