Madikeri: The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) has demanded stern action against the people involved in the assault of tourists where one of the visitors from Hyderabad died recently.

In a release, SDPI District President Amin Mohsin on February 19 said, “In the last few years, several tourists have been assaulted by the river rafting team. When people complain about the same, police have been behaving like the agents of attackers instead of taking stern action. Due to this attitude of the police, a tourist has lost his life. We demand Rs 25 Lakh compensation to the kin of tourist.”

He also alleged that the police should take action against illegal river rafting business in the district. “More police personnel must be appointed at the tourist spot to provide security to the tourists”, he added.

It may be recalled that last week Razi Ahmed, a tourist from Hyderabad was assaulted by the rafting guides brutally who eventually died of severe head injuries. The incident took place when over 130 tourists from Hyderabad had come to Dubare for river rafting. The tourists assaulted the guide when he objected to them removing their life jackets. Later again they were involved in a clash after the guide questioned the tourists for misbehaving with the women. In the clash, Razi suffered severe head injuries.
