Tourist battles for life after local resident tries to rob him at Makkala Gudi Betta

Somwarpet: A tourist is battling for life after he was attacked at Makkalagudi Betta, on Tuesday, January 8.

The victim identified as Rakesh Gowda (26), who hails from Rayapura in Hassan and is currently employed with State Bank of India (SBI), Mysuru.

Local resident Babu who works as a waterman witnessed the horrific incident and tried to alert people, after which the attacker fled the scene. The attacker has left the victim’s face, head and arms gravely injured.

Babu, with the help of his friend Vijay called for an ambulance and admitted Rakesh to a nearby hospital. The victim has been shifted to Apollo Hospital, Mysuru for further treatment.

Rakesh has undergone surgery on face and head and is currently out of danger.

Somwarpet and Madikeri Police have visited the scene of crime and are investigating the incident. They suspect that the motive of the attack could be to rob the victim of his assets.

A resident of Oorubetta in Kiragandur, Kumaraswamy (19) has been arrested under suspicion of being the attacker.

Local residents have informed the police that Kumaraswamy was loitering around Makkalagudi Betta on the day of the incident and his clothes had blood stains.

Police detained Kumaraswamy after confirming his presence near the incident from CCTV footage, and are currently interrogating him.
