Charmadi/Madikeri: Torrential rains continued on Wednesday night here, while rains decreased in other parts of the state. In the Charmadi ghats, operations to clear the huge amount of mud, debris and trees after the landslide, continued. The Charmadi ghats will remain closed for vehicular movement till this evening (June 14).

More mud slipped off the hillsides at few other places on Tuesday night. Moreover, the incessant rains have rendered the task of clearing the debris difficult for the officials. The downpour continued even in Kodagu and the Karnataka-Kerala road was closed due to the landslide.

A lorry cleaner from Kerala, Sharath Kumar (27) succumbed to his injuries sustained when mud crashed while he was clearing a tree at Hanuman Pare along the Konanoor-Makutta interstate highway. An alternative road has been provided for vehicles going to Kerala via Kutta.

A hillside collapsed along the Honnavar-Tumakur-Bengaluru National Highway near Joginamutt of Siddapur taluk in the Uttara Kannada district. Vehicular movement was halted for five hours as a result.
