Tipu Jayanti: Two-day prohibitory orders imposed in Kodagu

kodaguMadikeri: Deputy Commissioner Richard Vincent D’Souza has clamped prohibitory orders across the district from 6 AM on November 9 to 6 AM, November 11 to maintain peace, law and order in the district.

THe DC said that barring government programmes and marriages, the district administration had banned processions, protests, rallies, public programmes, political meetings and gherao by various organisations.

Assembly of more than five persons is banned during the period, he said.

The prohibitory order will be relaxed on Friday, November 10 from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM in Madikeri’s DC office premises, and Virajpet, Somwarpet, Madikeri taluk office premises for the government programme.

The weekly market has been prohibited during the period. However, the annual religious fair and cattle exhibition at Gundu Rao Layout in Kushalnagar town limits organised by Sri Ganapathi Temple Service Committee has been exempted from section 144 on November 10.

Carrying of arms or weapons during the period too is strictly banned, stated the order. The prohibitory orders have been clamped mainly to prevent the recurrence of violent incidents of 2015.

The district has turned into a fortress with battalions from Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and extra police forces from neighbouring states of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh manning the district.
