Madikeri: Cauvery Theerthodbhava occurred on Monday, October 17 at 6:28 am, to which thousands of devotees became witness.
As devotees chanted ‘Jai Jai Matha Cauvery’, a congregation of 18 priests performed the ‘Maha Sankalpa Pooje’.
MP Prathap Simha, actor-turned-politician Ramya among others took part in the event.
The idol of Goddess Cauvery and the place of origin of the river were all embellished with flowers and gold and silver ornaments.
As per traditions, chief of Bhagamandala Sri Bhagandeshwara Temple and Talacauvery chief Kodi Motaiah arrived at Talacauvery half an hour before the event.
With the ‘Theerthodbhava’, a silver tumbler was first filled with water and the same was taken to Bhagamandala to anoint Sri Bhagandeshwara.
Due to the strategic planning of the district administration, the event went on swiftly. The arrangements in place made sure there was no overcrowding at the venue.
Cauvery dispute effect
It was for the first time that Tamilian population was on the lower side at Talacauvery to witness Theerthodbava. However, the devotees from Kerala outnumbered others. Cauvery takes birth in Brahmagiri and joins the sea at Poompuhar in Tamilnadu. During the course of her flow, river Cauvery touches Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puduchery and Kerala.
Regular since 38 years!

Not just that, before arriving at the venue, Mandanna keeps a ‘Vratha’ for a month. This time, Mandanna had a prayer on his lips. He said that he wanted Goddess Cauvery to settle the existing crisis between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
