Ten elephants from Kodagu to train pachyderms in Uttarakhand

Chettalli: As many as 10 elephants along with their Mahouts and Kavadis from the elephant training camp here have set off on their journey to Uttarakhand for a span of six months to train the elephants and Mahouts in Uttarakhand during their stay.Ten-year-old Madakari and Gajaraja and 20-year-old Kenchambha from Doddaharve camp have been brought to Dubare camp, where they were joined by Shivagange (25), Kapila (32), Kapila’s 1.8 year old calf. On February 6, the herd was given a bath in the stream and was offered breakfast comprising of paddy, rice, jowar etc and then they started off their journey to Mathogodu camp along with their Mahouts and Kavadis. At Mathigodu elephants Thunga (15), another calf aged 1.8 years, Karna (6 years), Bhishma (9 years) will leave to Uttarakhand. Another elephant named Menaka (26 years) will also join the group from Bannerghatta.

Four rogue elephants are undergoing training at Dubare as of now and on completing their training they will join the camp as tamed elephants. The elephants from Dubare are in great demand due to their health condition and training.
