Section 144 to be enforced in Madikeri till Nov 25

Madikeri: The section 144 will continue till November 25 in violence hit Madikeri, said Kodagu Superintendent of Police Varthika Katiyar on Tuesday November 17.
Speaking at a press meet the SP said, “Section 144 will be imposed from evening 6 pm to 6am till November 25. 64 accused have been detained and cases have been registered against 35 persons in connection with the violence in Madikeri over Tipu Jayanti celebrations.

Also, the police have requested that no public functions and rallies except government programmes must be held in the district. People have been asked not to assemble in groups and not to carry any weapons.

“The reports from various departments have been received and the district is returning to normalcy. The public has been asked not to carry weapons or stones nor make provocative speeches” SP said.

Earlier, last week violent clashes erupted in Madikeri over the celebrations of Tipu Jayanti which was opposed by BJP and right wing outfits. Two persons died in the clashes.

In-charge Deputy Commissioner M. Kurma Rao was present at the press meet.
