Sapper H N Mahesh of Coorg honoured with prestigious ‘Shaurya Chakra’

Madikeri: Sapper H N Mahesh of the Indian Army, hailing from Kodagu district, has been honoured with the ‘Shaurya Chakra’ for showing exemplary courage while eliminating terrorists in Kashmir.

The prestigious ‘Shaurya Chakra’ award by the Indian Army was presented to Mahesh H N by President Ram Nath Kovind, at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, on Thursday, March 14.

Mahesh’s father Nagraj, a contractor, and mother Lakshmi are residents of Gonikoppa. Mahesh has been serving in the Indian Army for 7 years.

During an attack by terrorists in Kashmir last year, Mahesh who was on duty in the area, flung into action to eliminate the militants.

Mahesh who was not intimidated by the large group of terrorists, attacked the militants by constantly firing at them, forcing the terrorists to retreat. One terrorist was killed and another gravely injured by Mahesh during the cross firing.

The terrorists who retreated from the fight, took shelter in a hideout and were not coming out fearing attack from the Army. Mahesh and his troop attacked the hideout the next day and eliminated the terrorists.

Mahesh’s valour and the ‘Shaurya Chakra’ presented to him is another feather in the cap of Kodagu district, which is famous for its contribution to the Indian Army with its men serving in the army.

Mahesh’s parents Nagraj and Lakshmi were present at the ceremony.
