Sampaje-Mysore Road closed due to cracks

Madikeri: Sampaje-Mysore road has been closed due to cracks that have developed on the road.Hence movement of heavy vehicles has been banned . A 50-metre-long crack has formed on the road that was repaired last year, near the Koyinadu forest department office, owing to heavy rains in the region.


Following this, Deputy Commissioner N V Prasad, banning the movement of vehicles on the Sampaje-Mysore road via Kodagu, heavy vehicles, including buses, are plying on the alternative route. Buses to Mysore and Bangalore from Mangalore are plying on the Shiradi Ghat via Subramanya.

The deputy commissioner has said that alternative arrangements will be made for the convenience of students and the public from Koyinadu, Madenadu and Sampaje.

There was a long queue of vehicles which were stopped by the police at the Sampaje gate near Sullia on Thursday afternoon. Meanwhile, the Karwar-Bangalore passenger train could not proceed beyond Sakleshpur. Nearly 300 passengers were taken to their destinations in other modes of transport, following a landslide below the railway track at the 32nd km on the Hassan-Sakleshpur line.

Other services on the line have also been suspended. Sakleshpur taluk received 185 mm of rain on Thursday. More than hundred trees being uprooted on the Bangalore-Mangalore highway.

Schools and colleges will remain closed following heavy rains in Hassan district.
