Madikeri: The district Roman Catholic Association held a protest in Madikeri condemning the actions of one Ravindra Gowda Patil for posting abusive comments about Jesus Christ on social media.

Office-bearers and members of the association gathered in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office and demanded immediate arrest of Patil.

Speaking on the occasion, parish priest of St. Annamma Church, Virajpet, Rev. Fr. Madalai Muthu said, “Jesus Christ showed love and respect to everyone irrespective of anybody’s community. He had the urge to serve every creature.”

He expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that some miscreants have been posting abusive comments about Christ on social media, which is hurting the religious sentiments of the Christian community. Fr. Madalai Muthu insisted that Ravindra Gowda Patil should be arrested and strict action should be taken against him.

V. A Lawrence, founder of Roman Catholic Association said, “No one should look down upon Christian religion. Politicians undervalue and ignore the Christian community, and use us during elections to promote their party and gain votes.” He demanded booking of the accused under Goonda Act.

Leader of the Christian organizations, Baby Mathew said, “Christians spread love and peace, but some people are trying to disturb the peace and harmony in the society. As the Lok Sabha elections are nearing, some people are trying to create conflict among religious communities by posting abusive comments on social media. Such people should be arrested and punished. We should not be influenced by such conspiracies and try to maintain peace in the society.”

Association president Joseph Shyam, Vice President Johnson Siddapura, Secretary Johnson Pinto, Religious Advocate of the committee Antony Prabhu, religious leaders Naveen Kumar, Tenny Kurien, Martin, Stephen, Johnson and others were present during the protest.
