Madikeri: As the district is witnessing heavy rainfalls, the side walls of the national highway connecting Kodagu-Dakshina Kannada have developed cracks and are gradually falling apart. A similar situation had arisen last year too. In order to find a permanent solution to the problem, the Mysuru-Kodagu Member of Parliament, Pratap Simha met the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi on Wednesday, July 24.

After meeting Gadkari, Simha said that the minister had assured of releasing the funds towards road repair and sidewall construction.

Simha said that due to heavy downpours last monsoon, the Madikeri-Sampaje national highway roads were completely damaged and this time, mere moderate rainfalls were damaging the roads and its side walls.

Earlier, the National High Authority of India (NHAI) Superintendent Engineer Raghavan and Project Engineer S Holla had inspected the highway construction on June 4.

NHAI Superintendent Engineer Raghavan had informed that a report had been submitted to the union road transport department to sanction Rs 47 Crore to resolve the road issues on Madikeri-Sampaje.
