Political rivalry: BJP leader hacked to death in Madikeri

Madikeri: A 40-Year-old BJP worker was shot dead on Monday, October 1 at Maragodu village of Madikeri Taluk.

The deceased is Maragodu BJP Secretary Kaanadka Tilakraj, also a resident of Maragodu village. Nanda Nannaaiah, JD(S) supporter and Gram Panchayat member is the accused, who is absconding at present.

Kaanadka Tilakraj is survived by wife, one son and one daughter.

According to the sources, around 6:30 pm, both Tilakraj and Nanda Nannaiah had an argument with each other near Maragodu junction. Nanda Nannaiah immediately took out his gun and shot Tilakraj.

Tilakraj was immediately taken to the hospital, but he breathed his last on the way to the hospital.

DySP Sundar Raj, Rural police officer Chethan rushed to the spot. The police are in search of Nanda Nannaiah. A case has been filed in this regard at the rural police station.

MLA KG Boppaiah and Zilla Panchayath President BA Harish visited the district hospital, met the family members.

“Killing due to political rivalry is a very disappointing trend. Police department must take severe action against the accused,” said KG Boppaiah.
