Madikeri: Following heavy landslide, Madikeri-Mangaluru national highway has been partially shut near the Raja seat in the city. A decision in this regard was taken on Wednesday late night by the district administration.
Earlier in the day, following heavy rainfall, the road developed cracks near Raja seat. This year the vehicle movement on this stretch of the road was nearly double corresponding to last year due to the closure of the Shiradi ghat road for repair works.
According to the order issued by the district administration, only light vehicles will be allowed on the Madikeri-Mangaluru road. However, KSRTC buses will be allowed to operate on the road, but other heavy vehicles will be diverted via Makeri-Virajpet-Sampaje road.
Meanwhile, following heavy rainfall forecast, the district administration announced holiday for schools and colleges across the district on Thursday.
