Madikeri: Veteran leaders and former law minister M C Nanaiah took strong objection to the ongoing railway guest house works at a pristine hilly location Stuart Hill in the city. In a letter addressed to the Deputy Commissioner (DC), the leader has demanded action against the Railways for the ongoing works devoid of permission from City Municipal Council (CMC) and Madikeri Urban Development Authority (MUDA).
“Initially, the site was designated for the construction of a microwave tower. That proposal was dropped as the tower construction was shifted to an alternative location outside the district in 2010. Accordingly, a plea was submitted to the then DC, who was asked to take back the land in 2010. Subsequently, during correspondence in March 2012, it was reported that the proposal to construct the guest house was dropped and Railways informed of suitable action to return the land to the government”, said M C Nanaiah.
After a gap of 5 years, Railways has started erecting pillars for the guest house at the same place and put up sign boards, to the utter dismay of all, stated M C Nanaiah. It appears there are plans to revive the project and cause damage to the pristine Stuart Hill surroundings and convert the same into fun and frolic spot for railway officials.
M C Nanaiah has urged the DC to take action and stop the ongoing works being carried out flouting the norms before people of the district revolt against the move.
