Kodagu police crack Hebbale extortion case, detain 4

Madikeri: The Kodagu district police have successfully arrested four accused involved in a case of extortion which took place recently in Hebbale near Kushalnagar, and seized assets worth Rs 2.5 lakh.

The accused are identified as Praveen (25) from Channapatna taluk, Ganesh (30) from Arkalgud, Kumar (33) from Hunsur and R J Abhishek (23) from Hootagalli, Mysore.

District Superintendent of Police Dr. Suman D Pennekar disclosed the successful nabbing operation, in a press conference at her office on Monday, July 1.

“The culprits during the interrogation, have admitted that they had been part of the Hebbale, K R Nagar, K R Pet and Periyapatna petrol bunk extortion cases, Hunsur and Bengaluru bike thefts, K R Sagar and Belakavadi house burglaries and Chinya, Nagamangala sheep thefts. An attempt to murder case has also been filed against Praveen at the Shanivarasanthe police station,” said SP Suman.

The four accused on June 17, carried out a burglary at A R Service Station in Hebbale, which comes under the jurisdiction of Kushalnagar police. The four men who came in 2 bikes to the sevice station threatened people with machetes and extorted cash, mobile phones and other valuables. A case regarding this was registerd with the Kushalnagar Police.

A special crime investigation team formed by SP Suman D Pennekar successfully nabbed the four culprits at Kulkarni Circle in Hunsur on June 30.

Somwarpet Sub-Divisional DySP Muralidhar P K, Sub Inspector Dinesh Kumar, PSI Nandheesh Kumar, Police Control Room ASIs Joshi Kuttappa and Dhananjaya, control room staff Jayanna, constables Sadashiva, Archana, Saji T S, D R Suresh Kumar, Dhayananda, Sandesh, Joseph, A Manjunath, N R Ramesh, Y S Nagaraj, Prakash, Sampath Rai, K S Sudeesh Kumar, Abhishek, Manikanta, Chandru, Vivek, drivers Raju, Rajesh, Girish and Forensic Department’s Jayakumar carried out the operation.

The Superintendent of Police, during the press conference, announced a cash prize for the special crime investigation team for successfully cracking the case.
