Madikeri: Kodagu district, which was hit by the devastating cloudburst, has damaged properties that come within the boundaries of the municipal corporation. Seeking for more funds to be released, an emergency meeting was called by the Madikeri City Municipal Corporation (CMC) on September 6.

The meet was chaired by CMC President Kaveramma Somanna. The agenda of the meet was to introspect on the damages caused and also to take preventive measures for the future to avert such a disaster.

Kaveramma, addressing the issues, informed that around 80 houses were completely demolished and about 380 houses were beyond repair. Mayor Gopalkrishna informed that a report which stated Rs 10 Crore worth of property damage had been submitted to the government. Questioning it, there were chaos in the meeting in which the members of the municipal assembly said it was more than the declared Rs 10 Crore figure.

They urged that the delegation must make sure that required funds are released from the Chief Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund and also from the Centre.

The members also suggested that the areas and houses devastated must be marked and nothing must be constructed. They also insisted that the relief materials should be made available in uniformity.
