Madikeri: Heavy rains have been lashing the Kodagu district for past three days prompting the district Deputy Commissioner Sreevidya PI to declare a holiday for schools and colleges in the district on Monday, June 11.
The incessant rains accompanied by gusty winds has affected normal life in the district. On Sunday, two trees, that were uprooted due to the rains, fell on the Deputy Commissioner's residence near Field Marshall Karyappa Circle thus, completely damaging a room occupied by the DC's security personnel. No casualties were reported in the incident.
Later, DC Sreevidya along with the Tahshildar and other officers visited several flood-hit areas in Bagamandala and instructed officials to take necessary measures to prevent flooding.
Heavy rains have also been in reported in the Talakaveri and Bagamandala areas. There has been a rise in the water level in Bagamandala Thriveni Sangama.
