Paddington Resort and Spa, Somwarpet, Kodagu
Madikeri: As the Congress-Janata Dal (S) state coalition government is under pressure of saving itself from its MLAs' resignations, the 'Resort Politics' is back again.
JDS party has decided to shift all its MLAs to Paddington Resort and Spa located at Somwarpet.
The Paddington Resort owner has directed his staff to book around 35 rooms. This information was also confirmed by the receptionist of the resort to the media.
As a result of this, the resort has restricted the entry to tourists and others.
According to the coalition sources, since Sa Ra Mahesh from JDS is the district in-charge of Kodagu, it has been possible to organise the resort stay and also order the party members to keep a strict vigil on all the developments.
The JDS MLAs are expected to reach the resort by today evening or night.
Meanwhile, according to media reports, around nine MLAs from JDS are ready from the past 12 hours with their luggage to shift to Paddington Resort and are just waiting for the orders from their party high command to shift.
The MLAs are expected to stay in the resort for three days and all their mobile phones, likely to be confiscated for security reasons.
It may be recalled that, when the state coalition was formed a year ago, the Congress-JDS MLAs were shifted to Eagleton Resort in the outskirts of Bengaluru in order to safeguard all their MLAs from ‘Operation Lotus’ by the Bharatiya Janata Party.
The Paddington Resort is also famous for the Tamil Nadu political high drama that occurred in 2017, where around 18 rebel MLAs from All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) party stood by T T V Dinakaran, Treasurer of AIADMK and nephew of jailed party leader Shashikala. They had supported Dinakaran in his fight to get top position in the party.
At this point, all the 18 MLAs were shifted to the same Paddington Resort and were given protection by the Kodagu police.
