Madikeri : Members of Public associated with Jamia Masjid administration board demanded cancellation of new by-laws approved by the Wakf board on March 9.
Shouting slogans against the Wakf board, protesters demanded continuation of existing by-laws and forgo new by-laws. They urged for a general body meeting after receiving information of efforts by some powerful individuals to grab the property owned by Jamia Masjid. Under the influence of money and power, bylaws have been changed to accommodate the wishes of one individual thereby denying the rights of public over Masjid property, they alleged.
By-laws have been framed by violating court orders and under no circumstances Masjid public property will be handed over to individuals with vested interests, protesters warned. They blamed the state Wakf board for creating unnecessary confusion in the matter and demanded withdrawal/cancellation of new by-laws.
When Wakf board officials met protesters, they asked the officials to initiate immediate action by registering a complaint. The protesters also met City Municipal Commissioner V Shubha and urged her not to grant permission for change in the ownership (Title deed) of Masjid property.
