Madikeri: Concerned about the road accidents that take place often on the National Highway between Madikeri and Mysuru via Kushalnagar, due to heavy vehicles, the Green City Forum has urged the District Administration and the police department to impose speed limit on the vehicles.

Forum President Kukkera Jaya Chinnappa has written a letter to the Deputy Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police, requesting the imposition of speed limit on heavy vehicles plying between Kushalnagar and Madikeri.

“There have been several road accidents due to the speeding heavy vehicles on the highway between Kushalnagar and Mysuru. Commuters using smaller vehicles are anxious to travel on the highway. Tipper trucks can be seen in large numbers these days which travel at a high speed causing accidents. Several lives have been lost due to the accidents. So we request the District Administration and the police department to impose speed limit on heavy vehicles,” states the letter.

Founding member of the forum Cheyyanda Sathya who spoke to the press after submitting the letter to Superintendent of Police Dr. Suman D Pennekar, said that the SP had assured to take action.

“The SP has said that sign boards warning about accidents and indicating speed limit will be erected. The Highway Patrol will be directed to keep a check on the speed limit of vehicles on the highways and file case against the owners and drivers of speeding vehicles,” informed Cheyyanda Sathya.
