Madikeri: The state government released Rs 30 Lakh towards Madikeri Dasara by reducing the allocation by 50 percent compared to the last year. However, it has retained last year’s allocation of Rs 25 Lakh towards Gonikoppa Dasara this year.

The decision comes in the wake of the meeting held between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Dasara Organising Committee members from both Madikeri and Gonikoppa led by District In-charge Minister M R Seetharam.

Madikeri Dasara Organising Committee had allotted Rs 3 Lakh to each of the tableaus last year, which are a major attraction during the night long event. With government resorting to cuts, the tableaus and cultural events are likely to lose the usual fizz.

The committee was anticipating higher allocation compared to last year after drawing Rs 2 Crore action plan.

Committee Chairman and TMC President Kaveramma Somanna prefers to wait for two more days before going ahead with the future course of action.

Madikeri Dasara Cultural Secretary H T Anil remained hopeful of more financial allocation in the next few days.

Dasara Organising Working Committee Working President Mahesh Jaini preferred leading one more delegation to CM for getting additional funds for this year’s Dasara.
