Madikeri: The Kodagu residents affected by floods and disastrous land slides, had a reason to rejoice and have a smile of their faces. The reason was festive gifts on the Gowri Tadige. Kodagu District In-charge Minister Sa Ra Mahesh distributed new clothes in the 17 rehabilitation camps, here on September 12.

Women were given silk sarees, men shirts and trousers and children kids’ wear.

After distributing new clothes in the Maithri Hall, where the camp was set up, Sa Ra Mahesh had a festive meal with the victims.

After the meals minister, Mahesh spoke to the media and said, “We have already identified 20 acres of land with the help of the state agricultural department. Within the five panchayat territories, 30 acres have been identified.”

“Around 500 houses need to be newly built for which a forest land has been recognized as best suited,” he added.

Sa Ra Mahesh said, “People wanting to build houses on their own, will be granted Rs. 6 lakh, and for people who want their houses to be built by the government, we’ll construct.”

“People wanting to own the house or wanting to be in a rented house, the rent will be granted by the government itself. The houses will be built and handed over in about 10 months”, he assured the victims.

Sa Ra Mahesh said that a 4 member team had visited Kodagu, to inspect the flood affected areas. “They have acquired all the necessary information from the concerned departments and the state government. We are expecting more funds to be released from the center to the natural disaster relief fund”, he added.

Truth cannot be changed:
“There are numerous specualtions about the current coalition government will dissolve. One lie cannot be repeated 100 times to make it true. It is a weak strategy by the BJP”, he sarcastically said.

MLA Veena Achaiah, JD(S) leader K M Ganesh and others were present during the occasion.
