Madikeri: The terror of the bull elephant ended, as Forest Department officials managed to capture it. The solitary bull elephant that had created havoc in Suntikppa near Kushalnagar was finally captured and transported to Dubare Elephant Camp on May 16.

The elephant had eluded capture for several days now.

The elephant roamed in the areas of Suntikoppa, Horur, Kallur and Kodagarahalli, and had attacked several residents in the past few months. It had also trampled the coffee, coconut and banana plantations. Moreover, the elephant had chased the vehicles, especially two wheelers, travelling on the Suntikoppa-Kushalanagar Highway.

In an attack by this elephant, Ibrahim (64), a coffee estate manager, had a narrow escape from the jaws of death only 15 days ago.

Talking to NewsKarnataka, the district’s Deputy Conservator of Forests Manjunath said, “The elephant was captured at the Lalithadri Estate to prevent anymore harm to life and property. It will be shifted to Dubare Camp and there it will be trained by experts. The elephant is aged around 19 years and is healthy.”
