Madikeri: The number of distressed farmers who are committing suicide is increasing everyday in the state. Farmers in few places have been hit by drought but here is a farmer who has a different cause for his crops to have been destroyed. 
Uday Kumar, a farmer from Gaddehalla in Suntikoppa town has complained about drainage water entering his paddy field thereby destroying his crop.
Five years ago, the state highway was broadened in Suntikoppa town. Drainage work was done most unscientifically from the Suntikoppa town to Gaddehalla.
“The drainage system directly connects to the agricultural fields which has affected farmers. Even the people are affected by the poorly set up drainage system and has caused water related vector-borne diseases”, Uday said.
Even though the issue has been brought to the notice of various concerned department officials and peoples representatives, they have failed to take any action.
